For the first few months after Chapter Thirteen was created, the characters were normal. We had a pleasant charms professor, a happy Hufflepuff girl, a quidditch playing Gryffindor boy. There was one Slytherin who seemed to have been placed in that house for no reason other than his ambition, and the biggest insult out of any of them was “I don’t like your shirt.” Now, two years later, things are different.
When a sixth year Ravenclaw received a life-altering “E” on a report about the unforgivable curses, he decided to take matters into his own hands by practicing said curses on a crippled fourth year Gryffindor. Hogwarts’ caretaker enjoys sneaking off to Hogsmeade in his free time with his protégé, a seventh year Slytherin, in order to give said student lessons in “True Magic”, known to most as pain and death. This same caretaker is meeting with a sweet little seven year old girl, hoping to corrupt her while she is still young. Her mother, the dreaded History of Magic professor, is too involved with the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor to take any notice.
Among our cast of characters are a deaf sixth year boy and a mute sixth year girl, both Ravenclaws; one seventh year Slytherin seems to be heading towards prostitution; two “concerned” older siblings are enraged with their younger Slytherin brother, who is fraternizing with the “enemy”, a Gryffindor. We’ve got several families, an arranged marriage (two if you count, er, Jasper and Gavain, but describing that would take any semblance of sanity from me, so I won’t), some inter-house rivalry, a murder attempt that was a little too close for comfort, and a troll by the name of Trogle, who thinks of people as “stumpys”.
But a weird cast of characters is not all that Chapter Thirteen has to offer. We are an advanced Harry Potter roleplay set in 1295. That considered, you won't see Voldemort, Harry Potter, or any other canon characters. We have sixteen active members, and 54 characters. Instead of the usual cliched plots, Chapter Thirteen focuses on the plots of individual and original characters, as well as some added twists every once in awhile.
Now, for those of you who are not yet interested, that is a very, very good thing. After all, who the hell would want to join a board where the members are either “clearly insane”, “partially insane”, or “normal only by our standards, which are not very high”? Only someone who belongs in one of those groups. We have some weird sort of cult following for marshmallows, of all things… lord only knows how that sprang up, and if he does, he probably wishes he didn't. We have a chat room and without exception, someone will burst through with a “BWUAHAHAHA” sometime during a conversation, usually due to an evil idea about somehow making our characters suffer, because, as Theresa so aptly puts it, “Whoever said life had to be easy?”
But those of you who do think this sounds interesting, check it out! You don’t have to be weird or twisted to like our board, and you don’t have to play weird or twisted characters, or like doing weird and twisted things to said characters. What you do need is some sort of a sense of humor (if you didn’t I don’t think you’d have read this far, so no worries), some writing ability, and some level of versatility. Because no one stays the same after joining this board.
